Common CBT Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Setting Yourself Up for CBT Success
The Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is many people's first step into motorcycling. Here are the most common mistakes we see and how to avoid them.
Mistake 1: Not Getting Enough Sleep
CBT is physically and mentally demanding. Arrive well-rested so you can concentrate fully on the training.
Mistake 2: Wearing Inappropriate Clothing
While we provide safety gear, wear sturdy clothing underneath. Avoid loose items that could catch on controls, and bring layers for weather changes.
Mistake 3: Tensing Up
Nervous riders often grip the handlebars too tightly, making the bike harder to control. Relax your arms and shoulders – the bike will be more responsive.
Mistake 4: Looking Down
Your bike goes where you look. New riders often stare at the ground just ahead of the front wheel. Instead, look up and towards where you want to go.
Mistake 5: Rushing the Slow Control
Mastering clutch control at low speeds is crucial. Take your time with these exercises – they form the foundation of good riding.
Mistake 6: Not Asking Questions
If you don't understand something, ask! Our instructors are here to help, and it's better to clarify than to make mistakes.
